Webinar: Water Resources & Climate Change Planning

WATER RESOURCES and CLIMATE CHANGE PLANNING will be held from 10 to 11:30am, Alaska time. Continued climate change in Alaska will cause adverse alteration of the watershed hydrology, increased temperatures, altered sediment dynamics, reduced suitable physical habitat for fish, and further stress subsistence resources that Alaska rural communities rely on. Presentation by HAL SHEPHERD, Principle for Water Policy Consulting, will focus on how rural governments and communities can effectively manage natural resources for climate change and water resources adaption planning focusing on the Norton Bay Climate Change Plan as an example. Topic includes: 1) Overview of climate change and impacts in Alaska and how resiliency planning can help; 2) Process of developing climate change adaptation plans, from getting started to impact and vulnerability assessments, and the development of adaptation goals, objectives and strategies; 3) Water resource assessments, plans and management strategies; and 4) The role of water rights, the trust responsibility, sovereignty and human rights.
