We assist our community based natural resource crews with creating and administering field mapping protocol. We work with crews on an individual basis to build custom maps and data collection tools to meet their needs.
We start by training crews on field data collection with Field Maps. Once they’ve collected data, we teach them how to access the data online, and eventually how to build their own data collection layers.
Our end goal is to build the GIS capacity of our community partners so they can steward their own data without assistance from SAWC. In doing so, we support workforce development, filling data gaps, and tribal sovereignty.
SAWC also utilizes the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Fish Barrier Hunter Application – a smart device based app to rapidly survey and inventory culverts for fish passage. For more information on this protocol, contact andrew_stevens@fws.gov.
