Sheila Jacobson has resided in Craig on Prince of Wales Island since 2003 and possesses a profound commitment to Southeast Alaska. She first set foot in the state in 1989 as a Forest Service volunteer on a stream restoration project in the Tongass National Forest, which ignited her passion for the region’s ecological integrity. After obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries and Wildlife Management from the University of Missouri-Columbia, she returned to Alaska in 1990, later enhancing her expertise with graduate coursework at the University of Alaska.
Over her 32-year career in fisheries, including the last seven years as the Tongass Fisheries Program Manager, Sheila played a pivotal role in watershed restoration and road-fish stream passage initiatives before retiring at the end of 2023. Alongside her husband, she cherishes the time spent exploring Alaska’s diverse landscapes. Sheila is eager to leverage her knowledge and community connections within the Southeast Alaska Watershed Coalition board to promote sustainable environmental practices for future generations.
