  Deadline: November 1, 2013   This funding supports locally driven, community-based marine debris prevention and removal projects that benefit coastal habitat, waterways, and wildlife including migratory fish. Projects awarded through this grant competition have strong on-the-ground habitat restoration components involving the removal of marine debris, including derelict fishing gear. Projects also provide benefits to coastal communities, and create long-term ecological habitat improvements for NOAA trust resources.   Through this solicitation NOAA identifies marine debris removal projects, strengthens the development and implementation of habitat restoration through community-based marine debris removal, and fosters awareness of the effects of marine debris to further the conservation of living marine resource habitats, as well as contribute to the understanding of debris types and impacts.   Successful proposals through this solicitation will be funded through…

[caption id="attachment_1229" align="aligncenter" width="640"] An NPS funded Mat-Su Borough trails project[/caption] The Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance program (RTCA) is a community assistance branch of the National Park Service. RTCA supports community-led natural resource conservation and outdoor recreation projects. In Alaska, RTCA staff provide technical assistance to communities so they can conserve rivers, preserve open space, and develop trails and greenways.   Applications for assistance are due by August 1 annually. Assistance is provided for one year, beginning on October 1, and may be renewed for a second year upon request.     The Corporation for National and Community Service is making available the RSVP 2014 Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO).  CNCS anticipates it will award more than $14 million to local organizations that will sponsor RSVP programs.  The competition is expected to yield more than 92,000 senior volunteers who will serve in CNCS focus areas: disaster services, economic opportunity, education, environmental stewardship, healthy futures, and veterans and military families.   RSVP funding opportunities are available in 270 specific geographic regions in 45 states.
