It’s Here… The 2015 Juneau Maritime Festival!!

We’re excited to see you Saturday, May 9, from 11 am to 5 pm! Get ready for a day of celebrating Juneau’s maritime history, culture, and commerce – and the food’s pretty good, too!  Make sure to visit us at Marine Park Plaza and the Seadrome Marina to catch up on all things maritime.

Welcoming our special guest… Laine Welch!

For nearly 30 years, Laine Welch has covered the Alaska “fish beat” for print and broadcast. She began her career in 1986 as a fisheries reporter at KMXT in Kodiak.  Not long after, she began creating her own independent fisheries media business providing insights and coverage of Alaska’s seafood industry.  Since 1991, Laine’ Fish Factor column has appeared weekly in more than 20 newspapers and web sites, including in the UK. Laine’s Fish Radio program airs daily on 30 Alaska stations and on numerous global websites.

Both outputs focus on news and information about Alaska’s seafood industry, and include     market trends, fish prices, research, technology, politics, health, the offbeat – for every Alaska fishery.

Laine says she has two goals:  to make all Alaskans aware of the economic, cultural and social importance of the seafood industry – from harvesters and business professionals, to those who simply eat fish occasionally – and to inspire more Alaskans to join the industry as future fishermen, processors, marketers,  scientists and managers.

Laine resides in Kodiak and will be flying to Juneau for the Maritime Festival courtesy of Alaska Airlines.
