Between 2011 and 2012 AEA helped 146 of private businesses in Alaska pay for quality commercial energy audits to provide a clear path to reducing their energy costs through economic energy efficiency improvements.
Nonresidential buildings consume more than half the building energy use in Alaska, and the majority of these buildings are privately owned. The Commercial Building Energy Audit program will reimburse up to the full cost of energy audits performed on privately owned commercial buildings. The maximum reimbursement is set by the building size and complexity and ranges from $1,800 for buildings up to 2,500 square feet up to $7,000 for buildings 60,000 square feet and above.
Results of past year program participants indicate average energy savings of roughly 1/3 resulting from economic efficiency investments with average simple paybacks of just over six years. Some of these results can be viewed on the Alaska Energy Efficiency Map at www.akenergyefficiencymap.org.
